Baptism

Anybody who feels called to present himself/herself for baptism is encouraged to contact Pastor Deniz in order that the appropriate arrangements may be made.

Anna Chaplaincy – Anna Friends

Anna Chaplaincy provides spiritual support to the elderly, including, but not limited to, those with dementia, to elderly people of sure faith, of unsure faith and of no faith.

What is an Anna Friend?  Anna Friends provide invaluable support as they work alongside Anna Chaplains, often giving a few hours a week to suit their own circumstances and play to their strengths and gifts.  In this way, whether as Anna Chaplains or Anna Friends, the Anna Chaplaincy movement is empowering more people to be part of supporting older people and meeting their spiritual needs.

Level of Commitment.  Perhaps you are able to commit a couple of hours a month on the afternoon of the last Wednesday or the last Friday to help with the church service in a care home; or perhaps you can commit half an hour each week to visit somebody at home.  The ministry is flexible, and any commitment can be planned to fit in with your circumstances.

Requirement.  Anna Friends will need to have an enhanced DBS check, which the church will facilitate, and to undergo some formalities before they are formally commissioned and released by the church.

Taster.  Perhaps you’d like to pray about being involved and come along for a taster before taking matters further.

Get Involved.  The church leadership, as part of its vision, wants to develop the effectiveness of the church in the community.  If you believe you may be called to this ministry and would like to get involved, please speak to Philip, or contact one of the church leaders.

Deniz’s Message

Deniz's message is waiting for you to read on the Our Pastor page here.

Prayer Diary

We have paper copies of our new “prayer diary” available for you to collect from Church.  This has come from a great suggestion, and mirrors what happens within the village of Pensilva.  We have divided the whole parish of St. Cleer into areas/streets/villages and have allocated each to a day of the month.  We’ve also included local businesses and community hubs.  The idea is that in our daily prayers we  include the people who live in those areas and lift them up to God, so that over the course of a month the entire parish and everyone living in it gets prayed for. If you’d prefer to have an electronic copy, then please speak to Rebecca and we’ll get one out to you.

Clothes Swap

Thank you to everyone who raided their wardrobe for our recent clothes swap!  We plan to do these once a month in conjunction with our shared lunches, so if you didn’t get a chance to dig through your cupboards last time then you’re not too late!  Please feel free to tell friends and neighbours about this too; they are very welcome to come just to the lunch and swap if they’d rather not come to the service as well.  All clothes that aren’t taken away are donated to the clothing bank so not only are we saving God’s beautiful planet by reusing what we have, we are also contributing to funds for our community.

Tool Bank/Skills Swap

Do you ever find yourself wishing you had a wallpaper stripper but don’t want to go to the expense of buying something you may only use once a year?  Our latest initiative may help!  The Trustees have agreed to trial both a tool bank and skills swap within our Church community in an attempt to care for God’s creation and each other by encouraging sharing of tools and skills that we already collectively have.  Within the tool bank, Rebecca will be compiling a list of items that you may have, and are willing to lend to others who may need them.  This could be anything, not just workshop tools, but decorating stuff, gardening equipment, knitting needles, the list could be endless!  It’s important to say that at this stage the lending will be done in an atmosphere of “love and trust”, and so please don’t list anything that you wouldn’t like anything to happen to, as we all know that accidents can occur.  It is hoped that over time this scheme could be expanded into our community as an offering.  Similar tool banks already operate on a more formalised basis around the country (our closest being Plymouth) and have been really successful, so watch this space!  There will be a list to sign up at the back of the Church over the coming weeks, or if you’d rather use email then please contact Rebecca:

chair@cleerway.org.uk

In a similar vein we’re also asking you to sign up to a skills bank.  We all have skills that we may not think are that wonderful, but are probably just what someone else needs.  If you’re able to hem a pair of trousers, or make a card, or help someone with their email account, or put up a shelf, or offer an hour’s housework for the awkward top of cupboard/under the bed bits … even if you can give the occasional lift into town, then the skills bank could be for you!  Again there will be a sign up sheet at Church over the coming weeks for you to offer your skill.  It’s important to say with this one that we don’t want anyone to be overwhelmed, so please ensure that you are clear about how much time you’ve got to spare (e.g. one hour a fortnight …) so that when that time is taken you can honestly say to the next person who asks that they’ll have to go on the waiting list!  We are very aware and extremely grateful that we are a Church that helps each other on a day to day basis already at the moment and so to a certain extent this probably isn’t needed; however, by trialling it in Church, we can see how successful it is, and if this goes well we will offer it out in a more formal way to our community.

If you have any questions or suggestions then please do speak to Rebecca.
