“We have overcome”

Updated: Nov 16, 2021

The Olympics are well under way as I write this article.

It is always amazing to see how well the athletes do and how many Olympic records are broken. I have been encouraged to see so many British athletes doing so well.

There is one nation that has just won its second gold medal. That country is Fiji. Its rugby sevens team won the gold medal for the second time and to celebrate sang a hymn. It’s worth listening to; the hymn is called, “We have overcome”. Here are some of the lyrics:

“We shall overcome, by the blood of the Lamb in the word of the Lord we shall overcome.”

This team has been through so much; the cost has been great. On Easter Monday the team was on a five-day training camp. On the second day they were told that the country was going into lockdown and that they were to stay on at the camp indefinitely. They haven’t seen their families since!

Their journey to Japan was on a cargo plane with several crates of frozen fish. Apparently this enabled the team to bond even closer together. Here we have a group of men who have been through so much. As soon as they won the medal, their first thought was to give glory to God.

There is a message here for us. No matter what you are going through, if you can turn your eyes toward Jesus and start to worship Him, your spirit will be lifted. He is for us, no matter what is happening in our lives. He will help us and be with us.

Try praising him today.

Love to you all,

Martin
